When looking at replacing the rear sway bar, has anyone found that their drop links were worn, or are they a long lasting part?

Being a ball joint type link, I imagine they would wear out over time similar to control arm ball joints or outer tie rod ends.

It's my understanding that the links are a wearing part. As for how long they are supposed to last, I'm not sure.

My usual check is to look for grease leaking from the ball joints at either end. Then, disconnect the link from the bar and feel for free play and to check the movement feels firm and clean.

Correct installation would be key though, and I think it's why I put the swaybar locks on mine. I found the bar "walked" left to right over the course of a few hundred kilometres. This is the Mako bar I'm talking about. And as a result, my links would lean over. I don't know if this leaned over angle increased wear, or chances of failure, but I put the locks on to be sure.

On the GTVi, and the whiteline bar, I don't remember having the same "walking" rear bar issue.

Just with the Mako bar, I found the shackles used to hold the bar to the rear subframe to be light and cheap looking. And, due to the size of the bar/D bushes/shackle I have to use socket head bolts to tie them down - couldn't reuse the original hex heads. I don't think you'll have that issue at 18mm, but it's something to look out for.

Let me confirm this, but I'm pretty sure the bushes supplied with the Makp bar are Ford Falcon bushes (XD - XF?) and "should" be easily found. Like I said, let me check this statement.
I'm not a complete idiot - some bits are missing.
